The flexible assessment process allows providers to deliver CMI qualifications in a variety of ways, this being online, in-person or blended.

CMI offers a range of qualifications for Managers at all stages of their career. Whether first-line manager or CEO, there is a qualification for you.

The level of qualifications runs through 2 – 7. See below for a breakdown of these in terms of career level to see which would be best suited for you below:

Levels 2-3

Designed for aspiring, supervisory or first-line managers.

Levels 2 and 3 offer a broad range of knowledge, ranging from team leading to project and resource management.

Levels 4-5

For mid-managers, Levels 4 and 5 are more appropriate as they focus on developing core management skills such as managing resources, recruitment and information management.

Levels 6-7

Levels 6 and 7 are developed for senior managers who have the responsibility to translate organisational strategy into effective performance.

• Award qualification – 1-2 months (5 – 10 credits)
• Certificate – 4 – 6 months (13 to 20 credits)
• Diploma – 12 – 18 (30+ credits)

After completion of the shorter qualifications such as the Award or Certificate, you have the option of returning to study at a later date to top up credits to gain the full Diploma.

Chartered status recognises managers with exceptional management and leadership skills and commitment to Continuing Professional Development (CPD), demonstrating to employers and peers the value of a professional approach that delivers measurable impact.

Chartered Managers make an essential economic contribution to the UK economy and businesses. In uncertain times, never has it been more important to ensure that all UK managers are professionally qualified to the highest level.

CMI have reported that Managers receive a £13k Average pay rise as a result of becoming Chartered.

Backed by the Royal Charter, the Chartered Management Institute is the only professional body able to award Chartered Manager status.

Route 1 – Fast Track

Upon completion of a CMI Diploma qualification (at level 5 or above) and at least 3 years’ experience in a management role you can fast track your status to becoming a Chartered Manager.

Route 2 – Full Assessment

To qualify for this, it requires:

Either – a degree level qualification that is management, business or leadership focused; plus 3 years’ experience in a management role.

Or – at least 5 years’ management experience (equivalent to Level 5 or operational / senior management level) if you don’t have a management specific qualification.

Route 3 – Apprenticeship

You would be eligible for this route if you are completing End Point Assessment through CMI for one of these apprenticeship standards and have relevant management experience:

Level 5 Operations/Department Manager
Level 6 CMDA
Level 7 SLMDA

CMI qualifications are recognised by four official regulators, making them a great addition for your CV.

These are:

• Ofqual in England
• CCEA in Northern Ireland
• Qualifications Wales in Wales
• Scottish Qualification Authority (SQA) in Scotland

Yes, once you have gained Chartered Manager status, you can use the letters CMgr MCMI after your name to display your achievement.
